Where to Stay in Cappadocia

Just quickly, let’s go over the best region to stay in Cappadocia. There are a number of smaller towns within the Cappadocia region. These are Göreme, Ürgüp, Uçhisar and Avanos to name just a few. Visitors often ask which is the best town to stay in order to experience the epic hot air balloon views. Ultimately it depends on which way the wind is blowing, however Göreme was 💯 our preferred village.
1️⃣ Firstly, because the hot air balloons predominantly launch from around Göreme.
2️⃣ Secondly, the town is gorgeous and easy to get around in.
3️⃣ You are spoilt for options of stunning cave hotels – the list is endless!
✈️ Also the nearest airport is close – Nevşehir-Kapadokya Airport (NAV) 40km (26 miles) from Göreme
Cave Hotels with A Hot Air Balloon View – Explained

Okay, before we get you all excited with Cappadocia hot air balloon eye-candy, I’m going to explain how the hot air balloon view actually works. These hot air balloons take off just before sunrise all over the area. Basically the launch location is decided based on the wind direction.
The key factor here is the wind direction. We stayed for multiple days in Cappadocia, sometimes the hot air balloons went over the cave hotels in Göreme, other times they silently crept over the Rose and Red Valleys. Simply put, they’ll go where they go. So there’s no guarantee you’ll get that once in a lifetime hot air balloon view from your cave hotel terrace. That said, the chance IS possible… you’ve just got to imagine and manifest that it WILL happen! That is one of the reasons why I say, that you really need to stay a few days. Trust me it will increase your odds.
On a side note, if you don’t have the cave hotel with a view, you can always walk to the Sunrise / Sunset Point. This elevated area of town provides panoramic views over Göreme and is an ideal spot to see the hot air balloons launch. BUT DON’T get a drink at the onsite drastically overpriced cafe.
Notes on staying in a cave hotel
🔒 Book Ahead – The longer you wait the higher those cave hotel prices drive up
🛁 Bathrooms – These can get a bit smelly – cave hotels have issues with drainage
🥵 Humidity – Remember you’re in a cave, so temperatures will vary by season
🤳 WIFI – The cave walls are thick and accessing wifi in your room will likely be a challenge
💡 Darkness – Natural lighting can be limited – you’re in a cave after all!
The Best Cave Hotels with a Hot Air Balloon View
Sultan Cave Suites

This is the number one best hotel and terrace for those Instagrammable views of hot air balloons in Göreme, Cappadocia!
If you’re ALL about getting the quintessential photos over the valley with hot air balloons floating in the background…. this is it!
The terrace is beautifully set out for sunrise photos and the Sultan Cave Suites sit among the highest point among all hotels in Göreme, This means that your hotel view over Cappadocia is the best in the region.
BUT – be warned it’s very busy, the terrace with carpets, table and fruit bowl is staged. So don’t eat from the fruit platter! What the photos won’t show you is the queue of people waiting in the wings for their turn in front of the photographer. Naturally that comes with annoyances. People get pushy and the backdrop magic of hot air balloons gets somewhat lost in the moment.
I’ve many friends who have told us about their experience and it’s honestly not something I’d sign up for.

Elite Cave Suites

Elite Cave Suites is great if you want to be in the very centre of Goreme. Just steps from some of the best restaurants which makes eating out convenient and getting around super easy.
The hotel is surrounded by fairy chimneys which brings the Cappadocia magic you’re looking for. It’s also great value for money, one of the cheaper options on our list of best cave hotels in Cappadocia.
The terrace isn’t flashy, it simply provides a great view over Goreme and hopefully hot air balloons! It’s located on a slightly elevated part of Goreme, which adds to the optimal vantage point. The rooms are simple but authentic, carved right into the side of a mountain.
You’ll need to be okay with dogs, a couple of resident pooches live in the reception.

Henna Hotel – Adult Only

Henna Hotel, like their sister hotel in Istanbul, they are all about the presentation. They have elegantly composed spaces and decorated with a vibrant, homely and sophisticated vibe.
If I were going back to Cappadocia, Henna Hotel would be at the top of my personal list. It makes it onto my list of best cave hotels in Cappadocia for its style, its perfectly simple terrace view and for its price range! That is right! It’s one of the better priced hotels, making it, in my opinion, excellent value for money.
The rooms are simple and elegantly understated. It’s an adult only hotel so no rug-rats around to spoil the fun. They even set up a private terrace for breakfast on request, a great option for those celebrating a special occasion. Note it does need to be booked in advance.
The only thing I would note about the rooms, is that not all have the rustic cave wall finish. So if you want the guaranteed experience of sleeping in a cave then you might need to message requesting one.

Aza Cave Cappadocia – Luxury Hotel – Adult Only

This is something of a bonus entry, as Aza Cave Cappadocia Hotel is part of a group of four hotels. The other two nearby hotels being Sultan Cave Suites (mentioned above) and Kelebek Special Cave Hotel. The benefit to this, is that you can use their facilities! Yes that means you have the opportunity to experience a different hot air balloon terrace view or breakfast, should you choose. Conveniently, these sister accommodations are a short walk from Aza Cave Suites.
Appealing too is the pool positioned right next to a fairy chimney – creating the perfect photo opportunities. If you’re travelling by car, parking is easy with a parking facility onsite. There is a spa available to guests, offering traditional Turkish hammam – a must do. In addition they have a superb breakfast, but also a restaurant providing lunch and dinner which caters to guests who are gluten free or vegan.
Aza Cave is a luxury experience, guests can expect to be well taken care of. It’s the simple touches provided, such as the welcome basket and wine waiting in your room that make this cave hotel a special one. Guests rate this property as ‘Exceptional’ – quoting comfort and staff as being the most stand out qualities.

Cappadocia Secret Hill Cave Suites

Another of the best Cappadocia cave hotel options for the pool lover! There is a lovely little outdoor pool for those warm summer days. But in fact there are also a number of rooms that come with a hot tub or spa bath, so they cover all seasons. Not forgetting the outdoor fireplace which creates a cosy evening atmosphere.
I will note that I’m not a huge fan of the timber ceiling rooms as I prefer to see the cave walls for a truely authentic Cappadocia experience. That said some of the rooms are in the rustic cave style, so browse their rooms and request the one you prefer. There is a restaurant and bar available to guests and onsite parking.
The Cappadocia Secret Hill Cave Suites come very highly recommended with excellent reviews. Particularly in relation to the staff. They reportedly go over and above in ensuring that guests have a fantastic experience when staying here. The hotel is located very near the sunrise lookout point, which is also worth a visit if you have a couple of days to stay in Cappadocia.

Göreme Cave Suites – Luxury Hotel

Göreme Cave Suites is a luxury option without the hefty price tag, making it great value for money. The large pool makes it a great choice for families travelling with children. Some of the rooms also feature a spa bath, while one suite even boasts a mini-pool.
The only downside of this property is the lack of terrace availability. It seems that finding a cave hotel, with a pool AND a terrace view of hot air balloons is not an easy endeavour. Of course this isn’t to say that the hot air balloons don’t blow right over Göreme Cave Suites… you just never know!
Children of any age are welcome, with free cots available on request. Note there is no parking available onsite, but street parking nearby.

Artemis Cave Suites and Spa – Adult Only

Artemis Cave Suites is an elegant adult only hotel. Like the previous it’s rated ‘Exceptional’, with cleanliness, staff and location sited as being the best. Unique to Artemis is the little bridge leading to the sunset terrace. This creates a multileveled and cosy courtyard feel to the hotel.
There is a super bar, playing live music and offering great cocktails and sheesha. While the vibes are great, it can sometimes get a bit noisy after a certain point. Also note that the sunset terrace is open to external visitors and therefore if you want to catch sunset you’ll need to get a spot early to avoid missing out.
Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the Full Package Traditional Hammam in their spa and wellness centre. Artemis also have cultural classes available, as well as onsite parking. The best part is that the price is one of the more reasonable on our list of best cave hotels with a view in Cappadocia!

Another centrally located hotel is the Zara Cave Hotel, and for a hot air balloon view you can’t really go wrong. I mean the photo above speaks for itself, and there are plenty more images just like this, including multiple wedding proposals!
Zara Cave Hotel has family rooms available as well as a family friendly restaurant. Free parking is available at a car park offsite. So it’s important to note there is a short walk between carpark and the hotel.
Guests rate Zara Cave Hotel as ‘Exceptional’ highlighting its location and staff as the number one contributing factors for this. What’s more it’s moderately priced, in our opinion a fair option for a beautiful terrace view.

Luvi Cave Hotel

Our friends stayed at Luvi Cave Hotel and so this one comes highly recommended by them! The hotel has been created thoughtfully and with a lot of love. As such their ‘Exceptional’ rating is not surprising. The staff are highly praised, including Max the doggy mascot who lovingly greets all the guests.
The terrace is top notch with its elevated views of Göreme. We also like the fact that the terrace is decorated with simple style, and not complicating with unnecessary add ons.
Public parking is available in the nearby square. The outdoor fire is a hit, particularly in the cooler months, simply ask the team to light it up! There’s a small bar available to guests but no restaurant, however Luvi is walking distance to some of the best restaurants in the area.
Tip: If you’re after a hot tub, then book the King Suite and enjoy some relaxation to finish the day.

Aren Cave Hotel and Art Gallery comes with the highest ratings of almost all reviews. Guests simply rave about this accommodation and the outstanding service from Furkan and family. With most sharing 10/10 reviews. Now doesn’t that speak volumes!
If you’re seeking authentic then this is one of your best choices… it’s a family run cave hotel and in fact was once a home. Consequently Aren Cave Hotel has created a cosy and welcoming vibe. It could be described as having the artist touch.
An exceptional breakfast is served on the panoramic terrace which overlooks Göreme and beyond. And from this elevated position you’ll hopefully get hot air balloon views for your visit. Family rooms are available and free onsite parking for guests travelling by car.

Terra Cave Hotel

Aesthetics at the Terra Cave Hotel come with all the vibes. The hotel terrace has great views and is perched beside a fairy chimney and the cave rooms feel authentic in every way. What’s more the hotel is styled in such a way that it looks traditional but with modern undertones. Some of the rooms even have a fireplace!
Terra Cave Hotel is rated exceptional, but one guest did note that on their visit (in the offseason) the terrace was not setup with rugs and cushions. In which case if you choose this hotel, you might want to confirm that it’s Instagram ready, for when those hot air balloons float past.
Children over 8 years old are welcome and parking is available nearby. While it’s still centrally located the Terra Cave Hotel is ever so slightly further to the west in comparison to the other hotels in this guide.

Village Cave House Hotel

As we approach the end of this list of best cave hotels in Cappadocia – we hope you’re narrowing in on finding something that suits your needs. Village Cave House Hotel is another authentic property that won’t disappoint. This hotel is carved into fairy chimneys as the hotel is nestled right in amongst a mountainside. As such the rooms are some of the best cave options in Göreme.
The property is also one of the more elevated and so the hot air balloon views are going to hit the mark! Better still, the price is very reasonable coming in as one of the cheaper accommodation options here. And if you’re travelling with the kids, you’ll be happy to know that the Village Cave House welcomes children of any age, also offering family rooms.

How absolutely amazing! I would love to go in a hot air balloon, but I have always been too afraid when the opportunity has presented itself. But what a wonderful way to see the world! These hotels look amazing , especially the Zara hotel cave. Thank you for the new entries on my bucket list! xxx
Don’t be afraid! It’s the best experience, I could be described a risk adverse traveller, but the hot air balloons weren’t scary at all 🙂
